"I believe that the CCO is so important for helping to prepare people mentally for a different cultural experience. Having lived overseas as I child, it was probably easier for me than for others, but even so...it is good to know different techniques, get advice, and hear other peoples' stories. It was a great time to be challenged and encouraged!"
~Rachel, served 2 years in Asia

  • Assessment – Different methods are used to assess the participants for cross-cultural ministry including: personality profiles, spiritual gifts assessment, conflict management indicator, as well as, observing the interaction of participants during group activities.
  • Training – Several tools are used in training, including: video, Power Point, lecture, and group activities. Each activity is designed to teach as well as stimulate a desire for further study regarding the topics covered.
  • Orientation – The focus of the weekend is to equip each participant with information on the necessary steps needed to get actively involved in hands-on missions. Orientation is given on the overall structure of the Church of the Nazarene with a focus on the opportunities that are available, both short-term and long- term. Topics such as accountability, the flow of support funds, and the resources available to an individual or family are covered. A personal interview is given for each participant who would like to share what God is doing in their lives and where He is leading them.
  • Housing & Meals – in order to keep the cost to a minimum, each participant may choose where they are going to stay and where they would like to eat. We would encourage participants to stay with friends in the area or at a hotel nearby. On-site food service is usually available through each of our colleges and universities, as well as local restaurants. If you have questions about hotel accommodations, please locate your event's information sheet here or contact us at MissionCorps@nazarene.org.
  • Transportation - World Mission is unable to offer shuttle services; therefore, the best option for participants would be to either rent a car (if you plan to fly) or to make arrangements with friends or family in the area. All participants will need to be responsible for daily transportation to and from the event.
  • Dress – Dress is casual.
  • Items to bring – Writing utensil and an openness to learn. Snacks optional.
  • Registration - If possible, please send registration and payment 30 days before the event. Although walk-ins are welcome, pre-registration is preferred.
